Fraser Coast
Since it was first sighted by Captain Cook in 1770, Fraser Island has been an enigma to Europeans, beautiful and inviting, yet wild and dangerous.

The Fraser Coast is dominated by Fraser Island, the large World-Heritage listed island off the mainland. With its ancient rainforests, pristine beaches, perched lakes, coloured sand cliffs and gorges, Fraser Island has become a hotspot for eco-tourism in Australia.
On the mainland, the city of Maryborough and township of Hervey Bay provide both a stepping off point to Fraser Island and are worthwhile destinations in their own right. Each year in the sheltered waters between Fraser Island and Hervey Bay, visitors flock to see magnificent humpback whales at play during their migration.
