About Noosa Heads

Resting on the southern shores of Laguna Bay on Queensland's Sunshine Coast, Noosa Heads is a charming coastal town at the north end of Alexandria Bay. Just 160 kilometres north of Brisbane, the state's capital, Noosa Heads is renowned for its picturesque scenery, glittering waterways, fantastic holiday accommodation, golden beaches and spectacular natural beauty.

Noosa Heads is best enjoyed on foot, allowing you the freedom and relaxed pace to explore the tranquil atmosphere and stunning views. Stroll through the peaceful Noosa National Park or drift along the Main Beach boardwalk on the immaculate foreshore and catch the refreshing sea breezes.

Inhabiting the Noosa Headland, the National Park is a natural wonderland with an impressive rocky coastline punctuated by sheltered coves and beaches. It is here, and at National Parks throughout the Sunshine Coast region, that you can bushwalk, picnic and even camp among the rainforest. There are a number of walking tracks throughout the park which offer the fantastic chance to explore the open forest, wallum headlands, scrub lands and grass lands with ease. With the park entrance located just a short distance from Noosa's town centre, the National Park is a must see.

As one of few beaches on Australia's coastline that faces north, Noosa's Main Beach enjoys calm waters and moderate waves making it safe for swimming year round. Further around the headland that are some fantastic surfing spots including Tea Tree Bay and Granite Bay, smaller beaches and local favourites. Accommodation on the Main Beach is one of the most sought after holiday locations in the country.

Continue around the headland and you'll discover Alexandria Bay, a beautiful area and one of the nicer beaches in Noosa. It does not get as busy as some of the other beaches during peak season, however this is attributed to the fact that clothes are optional here. If that's not quite your cup of tea, then it's just a short stroll to Sunshine Beach on the eastern side of Noosa Heads, running south of Alexandria Bay. Extending 15 kilometres south to Point Perry, Sunshine Beach is renowned as the best surf beach in Noosa.

There is so much to see and do in Noosa Heads and its surrounding areas, however you can choose to so as much or as little as you like. Practise your swing with a round of golf, watch the whales on their annual migration or try your hand with a catamaran. You can also try camel or horse riding, throw in a line for a spot of fishing or cruise the crystal waters with a sea kayak. Of course one of Noosa's most favourite past times is splashing out at the boutique shopping and dining precinct of Hastings Street that surrounds a huge range of holiday accommodation.
